Warom Dance Festival Season 4

15th & 16th January 2027

Theme: Roots to the Future

Honoring our heritage. Inspiring the next generation.

My name is Komakech Rooney, and I am a dancer, instructor, traveler, and founder of Warom Dance Festival in Lira City, Northern Uganda.

I come from a background where opportunities were not always easy to find. Growing up, my family faced financial challenges, and there was a time when continuing my education became difficult because we could not afford it.

I know what it feels like to have a dream but not have the resources to follow it.

For me, dance changed that.

I discovered dance and slowly began to understand that my body could tell stories that words could not. Dance gave me confidence. It gave me people who believed in me. It gave me opportunities to travel, learn, teach, meet other artists, and see a world that I had once only imagined.

But most importantly, dance gave me hope.

I started asking myself:

What if another young person could have the same opportunity?

That question became one of the reasons I started Warom Dance Festival

I don’t want young people in my community to believe that their circumstances are the end of their story. I want them to discover their talents, learn from others, be proud of where they come from, and understand that they can create something meaningful with their lives.

That is why Warom Dance Festival means so much to me.

This festival is not just an event I organise.

It is part of my story.

It is my way of giving back to the community that raised me and creating opportunities that I once needed myself.

WHAT IS WAROM DANCE FESTIVAL?

Warom Dance Festival is a community dance and cultural festival in Lira City, Northern Uganda.

The festival brings together dancers, artists, children, young people, cultural practitioners, and members of the community through

Dance workshops

Performances

Dance battles

Cultural activities

Creative exchange

Community activities

Opportunities for young dancers to learn from experienced artists

The word Warom” represents togetherness, which is at the heart of what we are trying to build.

We want people from different backgrounds, communities, and countries to come together through dance.

SEASON 4 – ROOTS TO THE FUTURE

Season 4 will take place on 15th and 16th January 2027.

Our theme is:

ROOTS TO THE FUTURE

Honoring our heritage. Inspiring the next generation.

The theme is very personal to me.

I want young people to understand their roots and value their culture while also being able to dream about the future.

Through dance, we can connect traditional movement with contemporary creativity. We can bring generations together. We can allow young people to learn from those who came before them while creating something new for the future.

WHY WE NEED €600

We are starting this fundraiser with a goal of €600 to help us cover some of the essential costs needed to make the festival happen.

Your donation can help support:

Artists & facilitators

Helping us support dancers, teachers, performers, and people sharing their knowledge during the festival.

Transportation

Helping artists and participants travel to and from festival activities.

Food & refreshments

Helping provide meals and refreshments for artists, volunteers, children, and participants during the festival.

Equipment & production

Supporting sound, music, space preparation, and other basic equipment needed for workshops and performances.

Children & young people

Helping create opportunities for children and young dancers who may not otherwise be able to participate.

Community activities

Supporting activities that allow the festival to reach beyond the dance floor and connect with the wider community.

Every contribution, whether small or large, brings us closer to making this possible.

WHAT DOES YOUR DONATION MEAN?

When you donate, you are not simply helping us pay for an event.

You are helping create a moment for a young person who may be discovering their talent for the first time.

You are helping an artist share knowledge.

You are helping people meet across different communities.

You are helping keep culture and movement alive.

And you are helping me continue a journey that started when dance gave me hope.

Can help contribute toward food, refreshments, materials, or other small festival needs.

Can help support a young participant or contribute toward workshop and community activities.

Can contribute toward transportation, meals, equipment, or artist support.

Can make a larger contribution toward bringing artists, workshops, equipment, and community activities together.

There is no donation too small.

If you cannot donate, sharing the fundraiser with someone else is also a meaningful way to support us.

WHAT WILL DONORS RECEIVE AFTER THE FESTIVAL?

We want everyone who supports this campaign to feel connected to what they helped create.

After the festival, we will share updates with our supporters, including:

Photos from the festival

You will be able to see the people, workshops, performances, and community moments your support helped make possible.

Video highlights

We will share video memories from the festival so supporters can experience some of what happened in Lira.

A festival impact story

We will share what happened, who participated, what we learned, and how the support contributed to the festival.

Stories from participants and artists

We want to share real experiences from the young people, dancers, artists, and community members who took part.

A personal thank-you

As the founder, I will personally be grateful to everyone who believes in this vision and helps us move forward.

Most importantly, donors will know that they became part of the story of Warom Dance Festival Season 4.

Your contribution will not disappear into an idea. We want to show you what your support helped create.

OUR COMMITMENT TO OUR SUPPORTERS

We want to be responsible with every contribution we receive.

We will keep track of how the funds are used and share the results of the festival with our supporters.

Our goal is to build trust, not only for Season 4, but for the future of Warom Dance Festival

We want people who support us today to be able to look back and say:

I was part of this beginning.

HELP US TAKE OUR ROOTS INTO THE FUTURE

I started with a dream and very little.

Dance gave me a voice when I didn’t always know how to express myself.

Now I want to help create that opportunity for someone else.

I dream of seeing children and young dancers in Lira stand on a stage with confidence.

I dream of seeing artists from different places come together and exchange knowledge.

I dream of seeing our culture celebrated.

And I dream of seeing Warom continue growing year after year.

€600 is our starting goal.

With your support, we can turn this goal into workshops, meals, transportation, artists’ participation, equipment, community activities, and opportunities for young people.

If you believe in the power of art, culture, community, and young people, we invite you to stand with us.

Donate. Share. Tell someone about Warom.

Every contribution helps.

Every share helps.

Every person who believes in this vision becomes part of the journey.
