Manou lived and worked in Nairobi when suddenly a tumor was discovered:

In May 2023, a tumor was discovered in Manou's chest in Nairobi. At first it appeared to be merely something “small”. Several tests later, however, it was determined to be a rare form of lymphoma.

It was shocking news for Manou and her life was turned upside down.

Manou suddenly had to make urgent decisions about her future and life expectancy in a matter of days. After all, this cancer was taking an aggressive form, and there was already a large tumor growing in her chest.

As Manou told us, the tumor is "bigger than a tennis ball and sits between my lungs and my heart..."

Manou decided because of this to:

  • To return back to Belgium- in a matter of days. Abruptly she had to leave her recently constructed life in Kenya (May 2023).
  • In Belgium, she underwent further medical examinations (May 2023).
  • In Belgium, she initiated fertility treatment to ensure her chances to get children in the future (June 2023).
  • In Belgium, she started intensive immuno- and chemotherapy as treatment for the blood cancer (July 2023- October 2023).

Manou and her boyfriend, Douglas, suddenly had to leave everything behind in Kenya. Arriving in Belgium, they literally had to start from scratch again. For now, Douglas isn't allowed to work in Belgium, while Manou is undergoing her chemo treatment. In short: life has shown a lot of setback lately.

This fundraiser was started by friends of Manou

As friends, we want to give extra support to Manou in her battle against Lymphoma. Being diagnosed with cancer at the age of 27 is already tough news to deal with, let alone going through the process of chemotherapy. And on top of the news of lymphoma cancer came also financial setbacks for Manou.

Manou experiences a lot of stress about the financial costs that continue to rise. After all, health insurance, only covers a part of the basic costs. Other necessary expenses are only partially reimbursed. These include: the daily medication, weekly check-ups, heart and lung examinations, many examinations of, for example, the heart, lungs, three -weekly admissions, lab examinations and fertility treatments.

Manou is grateful and hopeful with this action:

"Besides fighting this cancer and being sick, leaving my life and nice job in Kenya, suddenly seeing my life is taking a stop, I also feel a lot of financial worries. I'm extremely grateful that my friends want to reduce this worry."

Every donation can make a difference.
