Support for West-Java, Indonesia area after earthquake
Last Monday 21/11 an earthquake with a magnitude of 5.6 hit Cianjur and area. This resulted in 310 deaths and 2000 injuries.
Last Monday, November 21, an earthquake struck Indonesia. The epicenter was in the town of Cianjur where around 150,000 people live. Up to this point it has been confirmed that at least 310 people (of which many women and children) have passed away and more than 2,000 are injured.
Moreover, more than 36,000 inhabitants are displaced because of their destroyed or fragile houses. Aid for necessities such as food and shelter are vital at this time.
Our volunteer team consists of a team of residents from Bandung, locals combined with exchange students from different countries.
After initial funding, the team travelled from Bandung to the area last Friday 25 November with an ambulance and 3 fully loaded cars to provide the affected people with food, clothes, blankets, and medicine.
An outline of the current situation can be seen in the photos. Many houses have collapsed or are too unstable to live in. Hence, many people now sleep in primitive, non-watertight tents. In addition, much of the clothing, blankets, toys, tools, daily utensils, and kitchens have been buried under the rubble creating a lack of food and beverage.
Right now, those affected could really use your help. We as a volunteer team would like to make at least one more trip to the area to provide the affected people with more aid. Hence, we are asking for a contribution from you for this purpose. We discussed with the people of the area and came up with the following list of what is most needed.
- Waterproof tents
- Blankets
- Clothing and shoes
- Medicines
- Food and beverage
- Help fund the rebuilding of houses
The more money we raise the more we can buy and travel to the area and make a bigger impact.
