Help jij mij aan een assistentiehond voor PTSS?
Ik wil mijn leven zelf in handen nemen en dit met de hulp van een assistentiehond. Can you help me get a PTSD-assistance dog?
Ik, Chris, start deze steunactie op om mijn leven op te bouwen nadat er complex posttraumatisch stressstoornis (CPTSS) is vastgesteld, ontstaan door een moeilijke jeugd en meerdere traumatische gebeurtenissen, waaronder verwaarlozing, misbruik en mishandeling. Een assistentiehond voor PTSS zou voor mij, naast een intensieve therapie, veel meer betekenen dan een trouwe metgezel; het zou een bron van rust, veiligheid en stabiliteit zijn in een wereld die vaak overweldigend aanvoelt.
Deze speciale honden bieden niet alleen emotionele steun, maar helpen ook bij angstbeheersing, het doorbreken van isolatie en het herkennen van triggers, wat essentieel is voor mijn herstelproces.
Helaas zijn de kosten voor het opleiden en onderhouden van een assistentiehond erg hoog, waardoor niet iedereen in België toegang heeft tot deze levensveranderende hulp. In Nederland is dit wel al erkend.
Ondanks het feit dat de algemene psychische problematiek al meerdere malen in de media werd gebracht door BV's en acties zoals “De Warmste Week” is er nog altijd geen financiële tussenkomst beschikbaar.
De Nederlandse organisatie Bultersmekke Assistencedogs (BMA) heeft van de Vlaamse overheid de machtiging assistentiehondenscholen ontvangen. De zogenoemde Cel machtiging. Hun assistentiehonden hebben eveneens in België recht op onbeperkte toegang tot openbare ruimtes.
Het is om die reden dat ik voor Bultersmekke heb gekozen om mij te laten begeleiden bij de opleiding van mijn assistentiehond.

Zowel de organisatie als de begeleidende artsen zijn het eens dat een assistentiehond voor PTSS mij zou helpen en dat dit dier bij mij ook een goede thuis zou hebben. Samen met Bultersmekke is er beslist dat een Flatcoat Retriever een goede match zou zijn voor mij.
Ondanks alles probeer ik met empathie en begrip voor anderen in het leven te staan, maar ik merk dat ikzelf nu een steunpilaar nodig heb om verder te kunnen.
Met jouw hulp kan ik deze belangrijke stap zetten naar een betere kwaliteit van leven. Elke bijdrage, hoe klein ook, brengt deze droom dichterbij!

A PTSD assistance dog would mean far more to me than just a loyal companion—alongside intensive therapy, it would provide a source of calm, safety, and stability in a world that often feels overwhelming.
These specially trained dogs not only offer emotional support but also assist with anxiety management, breaking isolation, and recognizing triggers, all of which are crucial to my recovery process.
Unfortunately, the costs to train and care for an assistance dog are very high, making this life-changing support inaccessible to many in Belgium. In the Netherlands, however, it is already recognized and supported.
Despite mental health issues being highlighted repeatedly in the media by celebrities and campaigns like “De Warmste Week,” there is still no financial assistance available in Belgium for this purpose.
The Dutch organization Bultersmekke Assistencedogs (BMA) has received authorization from the Flemish government (via the so-called Authorization Cell (Cel Machtiging)) to operate as an assistance dog training provider. Their assistance dogs also have the right to unrestricted access to public spaces in Belgium.
This is why I’ve chosen Bultersmekke to guide me through the training of my assistance dog.

Both the organization and my medical team agree that a PTSD assistance dog would greatly benefit me and that the dog would have a loving home with me. Together with Bultersmekke, we’ve determined that a Flatcoat Retriever would be an ideal match for my needs.
Despite everything, I strive to live with empathy and understanding toward others, but I now realize I need a pillar of support to move forward.
