Over longcovid

This year The Warmest Week (a Flemish fundraising project) is dedicated to invisible illnesses.
One of those illnesses is longcovid which has caused me a pretty intens and difficult year.
After four years of complaints I finally received a diagnosis in the fall of 2024. Only when I no longer had to go on, came the blow (with all of the symptoms). Even walking, the thing I love most, wasn’t possible or for only 15 minutes a day.
Now, I am able to walk a day trip again, if I take naps in between and guard my limits.
That’s why I am letting myself enjoy a special project this October: walking for a whole month, step by step discovering how I live with this new reality (work in progress), all while raising money for research for longcovid.
The nap-challenge
Because I will need around 60 naps during my trip (2/day), I am letting them be symbolically sponsored. By doing this the ‘invisible kilometers’ will become visible, just like we want to make longcovid visible.
The proceeds will go to ‘Not Recovered Belgium’, which supports scientific research and better validation for longcovid patients (and other post-acute infectious diseases). That way people receive a faster diagnosis, an adapted revalidation process and perspective again.

If you can't support financially, you are always welcome to send me a sunny thought for nice weather, because naps in the sun are always the best!
About Longcovid
After a covid infection a chronic infection can affect and narrow your bloodvessels. As a result your autonomic nervous system is disrupted and extreme fatigue develops, often accompanied by over 200 different symptoms. Furthermore the so called PEM, a crash not in proportion with the effort you delivered, causes the illness to have a nasty pattern. Research is still in it’s beginning stages, which makes good diagnosis standards and revalidation desperately needed.
