Sudan Solidarity Network Belgium (SSN) continues its efforts to support grassroots initiatives led by local communities across Sudan.

Today, we invite you to stand with the Women's Emergency Response Room of El Geneina by helping provide daily meals to the families caring for patients at El Geneina Hospital.

Why this matters?

For thousands of families in Sudan, survival is no longer only about medicine.

At El Geneina Hospital in West Darfur, hundreds of relatives remain day and night at the bedside of their loved ones without food. Many have fled violence, lost their homes and livelihoods, and can no longer afford even a single meal while caring for sick family members. As a result, many caregivers themselves become weak, exhausted, and vulnerable to illness. Hunger makes the burden of caring for loved ones even heavier and can hinder patients' recovery.

To respond to this urgent need, the Women's Emergency Response Room of El Geneina established a community kitchen inside the hospital.

Every day, dedicated women volunteers prepare and distribute 500 freshly cooked breakfasts for patients' caregivers offering not only food, but dignity, hope, and solidarity during an unimaginable crisis.

Why we are fundraising?

The kitchen currently serves 500 meals every day, but demand continues to grow.

According to the Women's ERR, it costs approximately €1,500 per week to keep the kitchen running.

Every donation, no matter the amount, helps ensure that families do not have to choose between staying beside a sick loved one and finding something to eat.

About the Women's Emergency Response Room:

Since the outbreak of war in Sudan, Emergency Response Rooms (ERRs) have become the backbone of community-led humanitarian action. The Women's Emergency Response Room of El Geneina brings together local women volunteers who organise emergency relief where international assistance often cannot reach. Their work includes not only healthcare facilities but also food assistance, community support, emergency response, and humanitarian aid for civilians affected by the conflict.

The hospital kitchen is just one example of their extraordinary commitment to protecting their community in the face of war.
