My cousin in Egypt urgently needs support. She married early and, due to societal and economic circumstances, never had the opportunity to pursue higher education. Despite an abusive marriage and the severe hardships of a struggling economy, she always found ways to earn a living through odd jobs, cooking, cleaning, and any work she could find. She spent her entire life working tirelessly to survive. Now in her mid-forties, she has finally been able to leave her husband, though she continues to struggle financially to stay afloat.

Two years ago, she was involved in a serious accident that left her permanently injured and dependent on a walking aid. The accident required a costly operation on her leg, and to receive appropriate medical treatment, she took out a loan with a licensed company. Her medical condition, however, prevented her from continuing the odd jobs she had relied on. She managed to repay some amounts here and there, but fell behind on her installments. As a result, the company initiated judicial action and filed a court case on 25 September 2025.

If she is unable to repay the full amount before that date, she risks imprisonment, which would further worsen both her financial and medical situation.

She also requires a second operation on her leg to improve her mobility and reduce the chronic pain caused by physical strain.

There is no social safety net for her in place and she is unable to rely on Egyptian authorities for help or guidance.

I have been supporting her in several ways over the years, to the best of my ability, and recently invested in a food cart so she could run her own business and gain financial independence. She has only just started out, and the profits are not yet sufficient to cover her living costs, grow the business, repay the debt, or cover pending medical expenses.

I am not in a position to cover all these costs alone, so I am reaching out to anyone who might be able to spare even a small contribution.

Medical expenses: 70,000 Egyptian pounds (€1,239 / $1,454 / £1,080)
