Hi, my name is Gianluca Molardi, I am 46 years old and I have been a C4 quadriplegic for 27 years. Since 1998 I am paralyzed from the head down. I can move my arms a little, otherwise I have no movement. My life changed at 18. I trusted the wrong person to meet a girl and got in the car with him, who was going too fast. For twenty years my parents took care of me, they never abandoned me and with difficulty they dedicated their whole life to try to take care of me and allow me to continue my studies and try to live without ever giving up! Never! I finished studying and, step by step, graduated in Engineering. In these years, slowly, my mother, who assisted me day and night, began to have problems and was operated on the back, also losing her independence. My father also had two tumors and for one of them the doctors removed his stomach. Year after year, I need more and more help from other people. Nursing help. I even tried to invest the last of my money, but it went wrong and made things worse. I’m totally dependent on others. For the others it’s work and I have to pay everything. I need a hand to go to the bathroom, wash myself, get dressed, move around in a wheelchair, eat and drink. These are all normal daily actions for anyone. Not for me. I have to pay nursing care day after day. I have to pay to be able to live because, literally, if I don’t have the financial possibilities to pay the people who help me, I can’t live! What I ask for is help to continue living, to continue living with dignity, to love this life and appreciate it as much as I appreciate and love it, despite the fact that for 27 years my body has had no movement and has no sensitivity.
