Daraja Mbili - public hospital in Arusha, Tanzania

Jambo rafiki!
We (Sarah and Jonah) are medical students and this summer we are volunteering in a small public hospital in Tanzania. The hospital is called Daraja Mbili and is located in a poor region of Arusha with a certain demand for medical care and supplies.
After 2 weeks of working at Daraja Mbili and having a really welcoming experience, we learned a lot about the situation here. The hospital mainly focuses on the care of pregnant women, children and geriatric patients. Diseases like pneumonia, urinary tract infections, wound infections, dehydratation, HIV and malaria are common here and have a huge impact on health. Besides that, labour and birth happen on a daily basis as well.
We talked with the local medical staff about what would be useful for the hospital. Our main goal with this fundraiser would be to contribute in a sustainable way. By providing blood pressure cuffs, sinks for basic hygiene and curtains between the beds for privacy, we could already meet some needs.
Aside from the work in the hospital, we also go on medical outreach to small villages where people don’t have any acces to proper health care or medication. With the fundraising, we would supply painkillers, antibiotics and wound care to those who really need them.
If you would like to donate for this fundraising, feel very welcome to do so. We will be posting our daily interactions on social media to make sure you know exactly how the funds are put to use. Thank you in advance!
Asante sana!
