Baby M. was born with a severe allergy to cows milk protein. after weeks of gaining almost no weight he had to be hospitalised on the 10th of June for a few days to get his weight up. 
He was also put on a medical milk that costs between 45-50 euro the small can (400gr). he needs about 10-12 cans each month plus around 300 euro of medication that is not covered by any of the insurances. On top of that Baby M. Has tested positive for one gene of Cystic fibrosis and an alteration on the second gene. This requires monitoring specially because of his weight. He is a 5 month old baby that smiles a lot, make the cutest sounds in the world and bring joy to our family, but he has not even reached the mark of 6kg yet, which is concerning specially for his height (long baby but very thin). Unfortunately our family was not prepared financially for such high medical costs. The past 3 months have been challenging and we still have a long road ahead.

Baby M. is also not entitled to an important vaccine for RSV that costs 800 euro (777 euro to be precise) in Belgium because I paid to be vaccinated out of pocket when I was pregnant (about 200 euro). Other babies only have to pay 12 euro.

With the winter coming and Baby M start at the daycare planned for beginning of November (if his health and weight allow it), it’s absolutely infuriating not to have access to such an important form of prevention.

Otherwise we might to delay his start, and that means that I can’t go back to work. I’ve already used all means I had such as maternity leave and all my holidays for this year, so currently I’m unpaid and at home to take care of him. 

There still a long road ahead of exams, testing and hopefully a diagnose and proper treatment of the root cause and not only the symptoms.
