"A Doctor in Gaza Is Struggling to Survive – Stand with Dr. Mohammed
I am Muhammad Zakaria, an anesthesia and resuscitation specialist from Gaza. I work at Al-Ahli Hospital in northern Gaza
My name is Mohammed Zakaria. I am an anesthesiologist and resuscitation specialist from Gaza City, from the Zaytoun neighborhood. For over nine months, we have lived under constant war, in a cycle of daily trauma that never ends. Since October 7th, our lives have completely collapsed. I went from being a doctor saving lives in operating rooms to a human being just trying to survive in a city that is slowly, silently dying.
Everything in Gaza has fallen apart. Infrastructure is destroyed. Hospitals have been bombed. Streets turned into rubble. Entire neighborhoods wiped off the map. There is no longer such a thing as “safety” or “comfort” or even a piece of bread. Thousands of families have been displaced. Tattered tents, overcrowded rooms, or destroyed shelters are all we have left.
There is no flour. This is not an exaggeration. There is no bread to eat. The bakeries have been destroyed or have no fuel, no ingredients. The few that remain are overwhelmed. People stand in endless lines, under the burning sun or rain, for just one small bag of bread—if they’re lucky.
I’ve seen children faint from hunger. I’ve seen a mother boil herbs in water to trick her child into thinking it’s soup. I’ve seen old men beg for a single loaf of bread. We are not just under siege. We are under the grip of starvation.
More than a million people have been displaced. When one area is bombed, we flee to another, dragging our children, a few clothes, and what’s left of our memories. But death follows us. Every day we ask ourselves: is this the last day? Will I see my family again tomorrow?
At Al-Ahli Hospital, where I work, we no longer have enough food even for staff or patients. We perform surgeries on children who are starving, their bodies frail, their faces pale. We remove bullets, treat burns, amputate shattered limbs—only to send them back to tents with no food to help them recover.
We need you. Gaza is dying—not just from bombs, but from hunger, thirst, fear, cold, and despair. I beg you from the bottom of my heart: please help us. We need flour. We need rice. We need canned food, lentils, cooking oil, baby formula. We need humanity.
Please donate anything. Every bag of flour, every tin of food, every bottle of water or milk is a lifeline. A single donation can mean warmth, strength, and hope to a child who has nothing left.
