Na 32 jaar gaan we onze vertrouwde plek verlaten. We wílden niet weg, maar de eigenaar van het gebouw dacht daar anders over en uiteindelijk hebben we ons verzet op moeten geven. Gelukkig verdwijnen we niet van onze schitterende locatie aan het Max Euweplein. Dezelfde eigenaar heeft ons een andere ruimte aangeboden in hetzelfde pand, zodat in feite alleen ons huisnummer verandert. Desalniettemin betekent deze verhuizing met alles wat erbij komt kijken wél dat er een grote inspanning moet worden geleverd, zowel op het vlak van organisatie als financieel. Het eerste leveren we zelf, voor het tweede hopen we op u, onze donateurs, die ons nu al zovele jaren door dik en dun hebben gesteund. Naar verwachting zal het geheel aan kosten van juridische bijstand, verhuizing en herinrichting zo’n 18 à 20.000 euro bedragen.

Uw steun wordt altijd het meest zichtbaar in december, als wij ieder jaar opnieuw verrast worden door de grote hoeveelheid donaties, groot en klein, die vanuit het hele land binnenkomen. Ik hoop dat u ons ook dit jaar kunt blijven steunen en dat u zelfs extra royaal wilt zijn om ons bij de verhuizing zoveel mogelijk te helpen. Dan kunnen wij op onze nieuwe plek blijven wat we nu al zovele jaren zijn: een uniek schaakcentrum én een veel bezocht museum dat de herinnering aan onze Nederlandse oud-wereldkampioen Max Euwe levend en in ere houdt.

After 32 years, we are leaving our familiar place. We didn't want to go, but the building owner had a different idea, and in the end, we had to give up our resistance. Fortunately, we are not disappearing from our splendid location at the Max Euweplein. The same owner has offered us another space in the same building, so essentially only our house number is changing. Nevertheless, this move, with all its associated challenges, does require a significant effort, both in terms of organization and financially. We handle the former ourselves, and for the latter, we rely on you, our donors, who have supported us through thick and thin for so many years. The estimated costs of legal assistance, moving, and redecorating is around 18 to 20,000 euros.

Your support is always most visible in December when we are surprised year after year by the large number of donations, big and small, coming in from all over the world. I hope you can continue to support us this year and that you might even be exceptionally generous to help us as much as possible with the move. This way, we can remain on our new premises as we have been for so many years: a unique chess center and a much-visited museum that keeps the memory of our Dutch former world champion Max Euwe alive and honored.
