Most people admire purebred dogs. They love their appearance, their breed and their photos, and they are often more willing to help them.

But what about mixed-breed dogs? Are they really any different? Is their blood a different colour? No — their blood is just as red, their hearts beat just as strongly, and they are capable of loving and being loyal just as deeply.

Baksik and my five other dogs are rescued mixed-breed dogs. They were once homeless puppies, found on the streets when they were very small. They never chose where they were born, whether they would have a breed or a pedigree, or what their lives would be like.

I rescued them because they were helpless and had nobody to protect them.

They may not have a famous breed or a pedigree, but they have something no less important: they love, they trust, they wait for me, and they are grateful for every bit of care they receive.

I work, but because of the war in Ukraine, my salary is not enough to provide everything my six dogs need. I am asking for help with good-quality food and warm places for them during the winter.

Baksik and my other dogs did not choose to be mixed-breed or homeless. But they deserve love, care and a safe place just as much as any purebred dog.
