In 2021 verloor ik onverwacht mijn broertje Anil (49), acteur en theatermaker.

Hij leefde voor het podium en voor de mensen om hem heen.

Na een opeenstapeling van verlies en de impact van de corona-maatregelen veranderde zijn leven ingrijpend. Die periode roept bij mij nog steeds veel vragen op.

Daarom werk ik samen met journalist en vriendin Petra Schouten aan de documentaire Tussen applaus en stilte.

Met deze film willen wij niet alleen Anils verhaal vertellen, maar ook een herkenbaar en menselijk verhaal laten zien over verlies, eenzaamheid, verbinding en wat er gebeurt wanneer die verbinding plotseling wegvalt.

Wij hopen dat deze documentaire ook iets kan betekenen voor mensen die zich alleen voelen, iemand zijn verloren of zichzelf herkennen in het thema van de film.

In 2021, I unexpectedly lost my younger brother Anil (49), an actor and theatre maker.

He lived for the stage and for the people around him.

After a series of personal losses and the impact of the COVID restrictions, his life changed dramatically. That period still raises many questions for me.

That is why I am working together with journalist and close friend Petra Schouten on the documentary Between Applause and Silence.

With this film, we not only want to tell Anil’s story, but also explore a universal and deeply human theme: loss, loneliness, connection, and what happens when that connection suddenly disappears.

We hope this documentary can also mean something to people who feel isolated, who have lost someone, or who recognize themselves in the themes of the film.
