Help Daniel fund his heart surgery! Help Daniel met het financieren van zijn hartoperatie!
Dear friends,
A few months ago, one of the kindest people I know, Daniel Merano, was diagnosed with a heart disease. One of the valves of his heart that allows blood to flow is not closing properly. He is set for surgery in November.
You may or may not know this - but the Philippine health care system isn’t as solid and generous as it is in countries like Belgium. Daniel’s surgery alone will cost him 613 442 php, about 10 000 euro. This doesn’t yet include costs of recovery. Only 13% of the total amount will be covered by government and NGO medical assistance.
Why do I tell you this?
This coming Sunday, I’ll be running the Antwerp Marathon for him. A 42.2 km / 26.2 mile journey to let him know that he is not alone, and as a reminder to him that every journey, no matter how tough it can get, always ends in victory.

Who is Daniel?
Daniel is a kind hearted, soft spoken, funny, nature lover. He is a runner, a hiker, a public servant, a diver, voice actor (soon), a dear friend, and so so much more. One thing that I admire about him is that he is always set on improving himself, on growing into a better, more courageous person. Daniel is an inspiration to me and so many others. He is a dear friend who listens with so much intention and love, and without any trace of judgement. He has taught me to notice and wonder at the seemingly small things in life. It has been such a privilege to have journeyed with him the past three years: we’ve celebrated our wins together, we’ve been there for each other through our challenges - we’ve helped carry each others burdens - and so I hope to help carry this one with him too.
